Statement

In an attempt to make an image some odd things can emerge. Strange characters, objects, situations, proportions and unexpected relationships all muscle their way in. It can get pretty unruly at times.

I don’t want to deny responsibility for what arises but I feel like the drawing will unfold and in order not to be driven nuts by this process I must step back and ‘let it all out’. I suppose my job is then to settle on a form of dialogue that allows an exchange of sorts to take place.

It surprises me that the drawings are so economical and a little odd. I think I have reached a time when I welcome a certain rawness and I have an increasing desire to get to the point. As a consequence the images are direct and, as far as I’m concerned, a bit odd. I am not quite sure what is going on but that’s not my problem.
